Microsoft Outlook Training

This site was designed to provide new UW Colleges and UW Extension employees immediate access to training on Microsoft Outlook. The different activities are designed to draw on readily available resources, to suit a variety of learning styles.

Outline

Basic Outlook

This WisLine Web video provides the user with an introduction to the Outlook window and to Outlook navigation. Next it covers basic email, calendar, and contacts skills. Because this is an archive of an actual training, there is a period at the beginning of the archive where the facilitators and participants are interacting and waiting for all participants to join. Please fast-forward through this portion. Also, there are several helpful questions asked by participants. Listen for these questions throughout the session. Begin Basic Outlook.

Outlook Web Access

Like the Basic Outlook session, the Outlook Web Access session is a WisLine Web video. Outlook Web Access allows users to access their Outlook account from the Internet. That is, anywhere a user has Internet access, they can use an web browser to access their email account. This comes in handy when users want to access their email or calendar from home, while traveling for work, etc. This too is an archive of an actual training, so there is a period at the beginning of the archive where the facilitators and participants are interacting and waiting for all participants to join. Please fast-forward through this portion. Also, there are several helpful questions asked by participants. Listen for these questions throughout the session. Begin Outlook Web Access.

Microsoft Office Online - Outlook 2003

This section of training includes links to Microsoft Office Online. Each link connects the user to a video training that covers a specific Outlook topic. The first page of the training provides an overview and goals for the training so users know if it is the type of training they are looking for. Each training includes audio, video and practice sessions for the user. Pick and chose the trainings that most interest you. Remember you can always come back and use these links in the future.

The Microsoft Office Online site has much more information for Outlook users. Here is the link to Outlook 2003 Help and How-to, where users can find answers to almost all their questions.

Computing Tip of the Week (CTOW)

The Computing Tip of the Week (CTOW) is sent out via email to all UWC and UWEX employees on most Fridays. The topics covered are quite often about Outlook. They include both text and screen shots, with video clips sometimes provided as well. All past tips are archived online at http://www.uwex.uwc.edu/outlook/tips/. The archive is also linked to via the Outlook Home Page. The archive site has a search tool and provides RSS users the ability to subscribe to the site. As a UWC or UWEX employee you should receive your first CTOW on Friday, if you haven't already received one last week or the week before.

Other Outlook Resources

There are many places to get help with Outlook for users who are comfortable with learning on their own. On the Outlook Home Page there are several Outlook Video Tips, links to the archive of CTOW's, archived Outlook WisLine Web trainings, and several manuals and handouts for Outlook users.

The other resource that is very helpful is Microsoft Office Online's, Outlook 2003 Help. If there is an answer to how to do something in Outlook, it can usually be found here.

Who to call for HELP?

When the answer can't be found, or a difficulties with Outlook are getting too frustrating, users can contact the Helpdesk. Depending on your institution, there are either two or three ways to contact the Helpdesk.

For UWEX users:

  • Phone: 265-3895 or 1-800-760-7610
  • Email: helpdesk@ces.uwex.edu
  • Web: http://helpdesk.uwex.edu - this allows the user to search the Knowledgebase to look for an answer, but not contact the helpdesk.

For UWC users:
