Welcome to Computing Tips of the Week (CTOW)!

This is the first CTOW for the 2006-2007 academic year. These tips are designed to help users work more efficiently. Since Microsoft Office is the "official" productivity software for UW System, many of the weekly tips will focus on Microsoft tools. There is an archive of past computing tips here. If you have ideas for future tips, please let us know!

First Things First - Where to go for help!

There are many IT resources available to faculty and staff. A good place to begin is IT Resources for Faculty, Staff and Students. There are several resources that are helpful for faculty and staff for both the workplace and the home office. If users click on the "Click here for Additional Resources for Faculty and Staff only" link, then log in using their campus network username and password, more information comes up that is only for faculty and staff. There are forms here for Desire2Learn, Zoomerang Surveys, Photo Roster Generator, and information about software for home use. The CIO IT Resources page on the UW Colleges Web site is another resource. This page has links to many IT resources, including the CTOW archive, online newsletters and journals, copyright resources, IT policies and procedures, and many instructional technology resources. Is there something missing from either of these sites? Send your ideas to Pat Fellows.

Computing Tip of the Week Archives

Archives of past CTOW's are located at http://www.uwex.uwc.edu/outlook/tips/. Each week the archive is updated with the most recent CTOW, so there is no need to save the CTOW e-mails you receive! Just create a favorite/bookmark in your browser for quick, easy access to UWC's Computing Tips of the Week. Since the tips continued all summer, there are many new tips mostly dealing with Outlook. Be sure to check them out!

WisLine Web Training Archives

On a fairly regular basis training for UWC faculty and staff is provided using the WisLine Web technology. WisLine Web combines the ease of a WisLine audio conference call with the power of visually interactive web-based materials. These trainings last approximately one hour and are available on each campus in a central location. Topics include Microsoft Office applications, Desire2Learn, Learning Objects, and more. During the Spring 2006 semester we had a series of wonderful sessions about GIS, Digital Images, Pivot Tables, and Home Network Security. These trainings and more are archived on the web, and available for review at any time. They can be found online at the WisLine Web Archive site.

MS Office Online: Get More Out of the Microsoft Office System

MS Office Online, the companion Web site for many products in the Microsoft Office System—can help make you more productive and get maximum impact from Microsoft Office System products." Users will find a great resource for any MS Office 2003 product. There are "How to" articles, interactive training videos, clip art, and much more. If you haven't see this site, I strongly recommend checking it out. Be sure to bookmark it for easy access in the future.
