Chancellor's Awards honor outstanding work and commitment

Chancellor David Wilson cordially invites UW-Extension and UW Colleges employees and friends to the third annual Chancellor's Awards Banquet, Oct. 1, 2009, at the Lowell Center in Madison.

Awards recognize excellence

The Chancellor's Awards recognize the exceptional teaching, outreach, collaborations and public service of UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees, partners and supporters during the past year.

"I look forward to hosting this year's Chancellor's Award Banquet," says Chancellor Wilson. "Each year that I've hosted this event I've heard inspiring stories about how UW-Extension and UW Colleges employees and our partners have collaborated, innovated and persevered to better the lives of Wisconsin residents, from infants to seniors and all ages in between."

"The banquet offers me a great opportunity to recognize a few individuals for their extraordinary work," he adds.

Colleagues contribute time and talents to the banquet

All details of the Chancellor's Awards Banquet are planned and carried out by UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees.

  • A seven-member Selection Committee comprised of UW-Extension and UW Colleges faculty, academic and classified staff members advises Chancellor Wilson on the choice of awards recipients. This year's committee members include Salah Bassiouni, UW-Waukesha; Nena Beier, UW-Baraboo/Sauk County; Paul Breen, Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, UW-Extension; Barbara Dueholm, Broadcasting and Media Innovations, UW-Extension; JoAnn Hinz, Cooperative Extension; Laura Kite, Continuing Education, Outreach and E-Learning, UW-Extension; and Marilyn Krump, Student Financial Aid, UW-Colleges.
  • This year's co-masters of ceremony for the banquet are Stephanie Elkins, Wisconsin Public Radio host and marketing director, and Daniel Kallgren, associate professor of history at UW-Marinette and chair of the UW-Colleges Department of History.
  • A short video highlighting the contributions of the 2009 Wisconsin Idea recipient, the Shawano County Rural Health Initiative, is currently in production at Wisconsin Public Television and will premiere at the banquet.
  • Extension Conference Centers (ECC) staff members coordinate the reservation process and plan and prepare the dinner. This year ECC food-service staffers not only researched and tested new food selections, but also submitted recipes for some of their families' favorite dishes for possible inclusion on the menu.
  • The entire awards and banquet process is overseen by the five-member Chancellor's Awards Planning Committee, which includes David Prucha, human resources director; Barb Sandridge, executive assistant to the chancellor; Mary MacKendrick, assistant to the chancellor and legislative liaison; Vicki Pierce, senior graphic designer; and Peg Davis, senior university relations specialist, all UW Colleges and UW-Extension.
