Multicultural Awareness Program

Overview

Outcomes

Intended Outcomes of the Multicultural Awareness Program are:

  • Increased diversity of educational programs, the participants in those programs and our institutional partnerships.
  • Enhanced ability to apply multicultural concepts and practices in our work environment and our educational programs.
  • Improved ability to recruit and retain a diverse work force while valuing and building on the strengths and abilities of all our staff.
  • A changed organization.
The Multicultural Awareness Program builds upon previous UW-Extension diversity training, including work with VISIONS, Inc. and Michigan State University Extension.

Trained Peer Facilitators

In May 2005, 20 UW-Extension employees were selected through an application process to participate in a train-the-trainer program with VISIONS consultants. By spring 2007, these colleagues will have completed more than 16 days of training and mentoring with professional consultants, after which they will be certified as Multicultural Awareness Program trainers. They will lead 2-day workshops for UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees throughout the state on an ongoing basis. View the list of peer facilitators.
